Motorcycle Insurance in Texas

Texas treats your motorcycle like any other vehicle on the road: liability coverage is required, and everything protecting you and the bike itself is a choice. We are a local, independent agency, and we compare options from multiple companies so those choices fit how you actually ride.

The requirement

What Texas requires for motorcycles

Texas requires every driver, including motorcyclists, to prove they can pay for accidents they cause. For most riders that means a liability policy with at least 30/60/25 coverage: 30,000 dollars for each injured person, up to 60,000 dollars per accident, and 25,000 dollars for property damage. Motorcycles follow the same registration, titling, and insurance rules as cars, and mopeds need the same liability coverage even with their smaller engines.

Liability pays for what you do to other people and their property. It pays nothing for your own injuries or your own bike. That is what the optional coverages are for.

Beyond the minimum

Coverage that protects you and the bike

Collision and comprehensive

Collision helps repair or replace your bike after a covered collision. Comprehensive addresses covered non-collision causes such as theft, fire or hail. The cause of the loss, policy terms and deductible matter; comprehensive is not limited to times when you are parked.

Uninsured motorist coverage

If a driver without insurance hits you, this coverage helps with your injuries and your bike. On two wheels, the other driver's mistake costs you more, which makes this one worth a serious look.

Gear, accessories, and custom parts

Saddlebags, custom paint, upgraded exhaust, a good helmet: policies differ on how much added equipment they cover. Tell us what is on the bike so the policy matches it.

Roadside and trip coverage

Some policies can add towing and roadside help. If you ride far from home, ask us how a breakdown far from Madisonville would be handled.

Texas riding

Riding year round changes the conversation

In much of the country motorcycles sit all winter. In Texas many people ride most of the year, which affects mileage, wear, and what a policy should assume about how the bike is used. When we quote your motorcycle, we ask how you actually ride: daily commuting, weekend trips, or a few rides a season. The answer changes which company fits best.

If you also have a car, a truck, or a home policy, tell us. Keeping policies with one agency does not just simplify renewals; some companies offer options when they cover more of what you own.

Common questions

Motorcycle insurance questions we hear

Is motorcycle insurance required in Texas?

Yes. Texas requires motorcyclists to prove financial responsibility just like car drivers, and for most riders that means a liability policy with the state 30/60/25 minimums. Mopeds and motor driven cycles need the same liability coverage.

Does liability insurance cover my own bike?

No. Liability pays for injuries and damage you cause to others. Damage to your own motorcycle needs collision and comprehensive coverage, and your own injuries need medical or uninsured motorist coverage depending on the accident.

Do dirt bikes and ATVs need insurance too?

Vehicles that are not allowed on public roads, like dirt bikes, ATVs, and golf carts, are not required to carry liability insurance in Texas. Coverage for those is a choice, and it is a different conversation worth having if you own one.

Are my passengers covered?

It depends on the policy. Some cover a passenger's injuries and some do not. If you ride two up, say so when we quote, because it changes which policy is right.

Will my custom parts be covered if the bike is stolen?

Policies typically cover some added equipment, but the amount varies by company. If you have real money in customization, we make sure the policy lists it rather than hoping a default limit is enough.

Can you quote my motorcycle and my truck together?

Yes. We are an independent agency, so we compare options from multiple companies for both, and we will tell you plainly whether one company for everything or two different ones works out better.
